Friday October 9, 2015 - Dead Sea, Jordan

We woke up at 7:30 am and went to breakfast at 9.  Today is a day of leisure with nothing on the agenda.

We went to the beach on the Dead Sea.  It is very rocky and we discovered that it is difficult to get in the sea due to the salt content of the water.  There were lots of waves and it made me very unsteady on my feet.  They had warned us NOT to try to swim and never put your head in the water.  It was difficult keeping the water out of the eyes also.

It was best to back into the water and just sit back.  The body naturally floats.  Unfortunately, on my first try, I got water in my eye.  It stung a lot so I got out and washed it in the beach-side shower.  I tried again and had success.  We then tried the mud bath.  We smeared the dead sea mud all over and left it to dry for 15 minutes.  Once it was washed off, our skin was so smooth.

Beautiful gardens and pathways down to the Dead Sea

Beautiful vistas - and Israel just across the Dead Sea

You float - there is no way to sink into the water.

Best to back into the Dead Sea - otherwise, it pushes you the wrong way

Smooth as a baby's butt!

We went to the adult pool and relaxed until 1 pm.  Then we went to our suite and had fruit from the huge fruit platter they had left for us for a snack.  We were going to eat on our suite’s balcony but it is hot and there was no breeze.  So we relaxed in the room for a while and then went to the Sports Bar for a sandwich.  At 4:30 pm we went back to the sea for another mud session for me while Tim floated in the sea.  There were lots of people and no waves.  The water was so warm.

We then went to the pool for drinks, and then relaxed in our suite.  We took showers and went to the Italian restaurant for drinks and then dinner.   I couldn’t believe how many smokers there were – all smoking their hookahs, or “hubbly, bubbly”!  So many smokers, especially the women.  We had a great dinner then went to bed about 10:30
